Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office brought final charges on 5th of December against the country's outgoing Defence Minister, Nikolai Nenchev, over the case for the repair of MIG-29 jet fighter aircrafts. The indictment is expected to be filed at court within a month.
The outgoing defence minister appeared in the investigation office in Sofia this afternoon in relation to the charges.
Nenchev faces two sets of charges for malfeasance in office. The first charge is for not putting in implementation the second agreement with the Russian corporation MIG for repair of 4 engines of Bulgaria’s air force owned MIG-29 jet fighter aircrafts. The second charge is related to non-performance of his official duties. According to it, Nenchev violated the Law on Defence and Armed Forces and failed to affirm a project for investment costs for repair of units and supply of spare parts for the aircrafts. According to the prosecution, Nenchev failed to secure the aviation safety of the Bulgarian Air Force's fleet and pilots.
As regards the accusations, Nenchev said he first wanted to get familiar with the materials.
Nenchev has another summons for the investigation office for 6th of January to get familiar with the collected evidence. There is one more charge against him related to a public procurement for sewing uniforms for servicemen.
