On the eve of reflection day before March 26 early parliamentary elections, Bulgaria’s caretaker Prime Minister Ognyan Gerdzhikov made an address to the nation.
“Voting is a right and privilege of citizens in democratic and constitutional states. Although young, Bulgarian democracy gained its experience in the most decent way - peacefully and through elections. Each of you has the power to choose who will govern our country,” he said.
Gerdzhikov turned to the young voters, who would go to the polls for the first time. “Do not hesitate. Vote! Bulgaria needs your vote. You are the future, you are the carriers of the modern and of progress. Your Motherland needs your active participation in the political life," he said.
The Prime Minister also turned to those who plan to choose the "None of the above" option in the ballot paper. “There are countries in the world where the right to vote is only a dream. Think again and give a chance to those who plan the things that are important for you in a way that you find appropriate," the Prime Minister said. “You may not like the person, but you can recognize ideas! The better an idea is, the more support it needs," he added.
Gerdzhikov said that the caretaker cabinet fulfilled its duty to prepare the conduct of the elections in the best possible manner.
Security and order are under permanent control. All alerts for violations of the law are dealt with promptly and adequately. The borders are guarded in compliance with the legal requirements. Free crossing of borders is guaranteed by all means provided for by the law. State institutions involved in the elections are in communication with each other. We are ready to respond to any emergency situation, he said.
The conditions for the conduct of the elections guarantee every Bulgarian's right to vote. The people's choice must be free, motivated and democratic, Gerdzhikov noted.
He wished every success to the participants in the elections.
