The centre-right GERB party won the largest share of votes in 17 district cities in Bulgaria’s municipal and mayoral elections, according to interim results on November 4th. These include Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Bourgas, Vratsa, Montana, Stara Zagora, Veliko Turnovo, Gabrovo, Kyustnedil, Haskovo, Shumen, Targovishte, Smolyan, Sliven, Silsitra and Lovech.
The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party won in 3 districts – Rousse, Razgrad, Pernik and supported the independent winner in Blagoevgrad.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms have one district city mayor in Kardzhali.
The rest of the elected mayors in district cities are from local coalitions and initiative committees: Vidin, Dobrich, Pazardzhik, Pleven, Yambol.
