On 25th of February, Bulgaria’s Parliament unanimously passed the amendments to the law on armed forces, which enable deployment of the army to guard the state borders.
It is envisaged the Council of Ministers to provide the necessary resources and funding for the participation of the army in these activities. The Ministry of Defence will determine the rules for the use of force in the implementation of the tasks related to border security. The motives to the draft law, tabled by MPs from the main coalition partner, the centre-right GERB, say that the amendments were necessary because of the increased migration pressure, which the country faced, caused by external political circumstances.
