Investigations into vote-buying have led to the arrest of five candidates for posts in the local government in Bulgaria’s coastal town of Nessebar.
A candidate for mayor of the municipality, a candidate for mayor of St. Vlas office and three candidates for municipal councilors are being investigated for an organized crime group for vote-buying – a crime against the political and electoral rights of citizens.
According to BNT sources, a candidate for mayor of Nessebar municipality was accused of being the leader of the criminal group and the others as participants in it.
At present, the five are being transported to Sofia, where they will be charged. Within 72 hours, the Specialized Criminal Court is expected to seek remand.
