Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev ordered the appellate prosecutors in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Bourgas and Veliko Turnovo to assume special oversight of 23 pre-trial proceedings for alleged crimes in connection with the financial interests of the European Union.
The investigation into those alleged crimes is connected with defrauding European Union funds for guest houses.
By order of the previous Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov from April 2019, checks were launched into a total of 746 EU-funded guest houses.
