Chief Prosecutor: Telephone frauds down by 94% over the past 3 years

A decrease in household crime in the first five months of the year was reported by the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor's Office. Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev on July 24 commented that this result is possible due to the good interaction between the state prosecution and the police. Geshev thanked the outgoing Interior Minister Mladen Marinov for the joint work over the years.

In the first five months of the year, thefts and robberies fell by more than 20% compared to the same period last year, according to the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor's Office. The most serious is the decline in car theft.

Ivan Geshev, Chief Prosecutor: The car thefts were about 25-30 a day. At the moment, today, there are 3 thefts in the whole country. There are days without a single theft.

According to the Chief Prosecutor, the detention of groups of telephone fraudsters, who took away the savings of mostly elderly people, also had a serious effect.

The Chief Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior is adamant that the job of the police in the first place is reduce crime to the lowest possible level.

According to the Chief Prosecutor, it is important that the interaction at local level between the Prosecutor’s office, the police and the local governments is based on the model of joint work at national level.
