Code orange for hazardous weather was issued by the National Institute of Metrology and Hydrology on 22nd of Janaury. The Mediterranean cyclone "Albena" will pass through the country. Due to the expected heavy snowfall and strong wind, code orange has been issued for all North and Eastern Bulgaria as well as for the Haskovo and Kardzhali regions in the Southern part of the country.
Expected amounts of rainfall in Northern Bulgaria are up to 30, and in the East - up to 40 litres per square meter. Wind gusts will exceed 80 kilometers per hour. Code yellow alert was issued for all the other nine areas in southeastern and southern central Bulgaria where rainfall of up to 25 liters per square meter and strong wind are expected.
Strong wind make snowdrifts, the Road Infrastructure Agency warns. All regional road maintenance offices and snow cleaning companies operate in 24-hour mode. There are about 3000 machines in readiness to clean and maintain the national road network in good condition.
