A new spike in coronavirus infection was reported in the South Bulgarian city of Kardzhali on June 12. All new 11 cases confirmed over the past 24 hours were contacts to a doctor who works in Pirogov emergency hospital in Sofia. She took a leave and went to her birth place, the village of Chernoochene at the end of May for a holiday.
She took a PCR test last week and tested positive for coronavirus. Initially the doctor said she did not have contact with any one, but later it transpired she had.
The people who subsequently contracted the infection are two local doctors, a healthcare assistant and two patients after the doctor from Sofia visited them in the local hospital. One of those infected has died.
The Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a check into the case.
