day protests organisers announce nationwide rally august

On day 34 of the anti-government protests, on August 11, traffic blockades and tent camps remain in place at Orlov most (Eagles’ Bridge) and Tsar Osvoboditel bulevard in front of the building of the Presidency in Sofia.

The organisers of the protest announced that a nationwide rally will take place on Thursday, August 13 and said they will block the building of the Parliament, where MPs will hold an extraordinary sitting on that day.

About 21:15, the demonstrators marched on their traditional procession to Eagles’ Bridge.

About 20:30, they were throwing tomatoes and balls of paint at the building of the Council of Ministers.

The organisers of the protest, known as the “Poisonous Trio” said that the traffic blockade at the junction at Sofia University will be restored.

They criticised the construction of the toll system and told about corruption schemes related to the maintenance of the system and the work of the Road Agency. This is another signal of damage to Bulgarian taxpayers, commented the protest organisers.

Arman Babikyan, organizsr of the protest: The operator without a competition will receive another 118 million without VAT for 2 years, and there is a possibility to extend the contract for another three years. De facto, costs have risen by more than a third, from the pockets of all Bulgarians, and the value of expected revenues has plummeted by 50%, making this expensive investment extremely inefficient and its payback far beyond Borissov's term in office.

Velislav Minekov, organiser of the protest: There has been a lot of media garbage for our biographies lately, but when there is something doubtful, ask us and we will answer. One of these fake news is that we are ready to stop the civil disobedience. Not true. On the contrary, we will encourage it more and more every day.

The tent camp of the mothers of children with disabilities from “The System Kills Us” protest movement last night blocked the traffic on Dondukov boulevard. Yesterday, the protesters freed up the crossroads at Sofia University as a sign of goodwill and a sign to the Prime Minister to make the right decision. The camp was relocated to the Cabinet building.

"For now, we are staying here, but we are considering other options. We are considering more decisive actions, this political crisis cannot last forever," Valentin Mitov said.
