On day 39 of the anti-government protests on August 16, three key crossroads in Sofia remain blocked to traffic: At Eagles’ Bridge; at Sofia University and the Council of Ministers.
The demands of the protesters remain unchanged: immediate resignation of the government and the Chief Prosecutor; introduction of machine voting at elections and changes in the judicial systems.
In addition to the tent camp of the protesters, the protesting mothers of children with disabilities from “The System Kills Us” initiative.
As part of the routine, at 21:00, the demonstrators went on procession passing through Tsar Osvoboditel boulevard to get to the Eagles’ Bridge.
Protesters at Eagles’ Bridge and members of the public complained that there was a group of homeless people who bothered them and claimed that a woman waived a knife against them.
About 20:30, it was reported that protesters were attempting to block the road Kulata – Simitli.
For several days. a group of roma people, who are not part of the protest, live at Eagles’ Bridge. They have shown aggressive behaviour which disturbed protesters and residents in the area. A signal was reported to the 112 emergency number and police patrol car arrived. A woman has been taken to the police station.
