day protests blockade anti corruption commission building

On August 20, on day 43 of protests demanding the resignation of Bulgaria’s government and Chief Prosecutor, protesters from Boets (Bulgaria United for One Goal) civic movement blocked the entrance of the building of the commission for anti-corruption and illegal asset forfeiture.

They demanded a meeting with the Head of the anti-corruption commission, Sotir Tsatsarov in order to hand his resignation to him.

This is the latest “surprise blockade” in the recent days, following blockades of the Central Election Commission, Ministry of Justice and others.

Protesters placed signs reading: “Office of Peevski” on the facade of the anti-corruption building. At 9:00 am, at the start of the working day, the demonstrators demanded to enter inside, but were not allowed. They started throwing eggs at the building. Some of the staff could not go to work because of the blockade.

Early in the morning, the chairman of the right- wing “Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria” Atanas Atanasov was at the blockade of Orlov Most (Eagles’ Bridge) in Sofia.

Atanas Atanasov: There is a need for greater public resistance against this fraud, which is being prepared. This is very important to tell the Bulgarian citizens, because you can see from the polling surveys that over 60% of the people support the protest, that is, they want the immediate resignation of the government and the Chief Prosecutor and the scheduling of elections for an ordinary National Assembly. But they are offered a Grand National Assembly and a new constitution. People generally want change, but only if someone else can bring it to them. It won't happen if they do not take to the streets.
