Day 49 of anti-government protests

On day 49 of anti-government protests, August 26, the demands remain unchanged: resignation of the government, the Chief Prosecutor, early elections with machine and electronic voting.

Traffic blockades at the three key crossroads in Sofia remain in place: outside the Council of Ministers; at Sofia University and at Eagles’ Bridge.

About 21:00, the protesters went along the route of the procession to Eagles’ Bridge.

One of the most discussed topics today was the resignation of the justice minister Danail Kirilov.

Some of the protesters’ comments were:

"I personally find it ridiculous because I have not heard any of the protests demand Kirilov's resignation. Everyone wants Borissov and Geshev to resign."

"He did very well to resign. I have long expected someone to lead the dance, as they say. I am very glad that we already have one resignation."

"The whole situation is so ridiculous. All the convulsions of this government to stay in power in some way. But it will not save the government in any way."

A petition is being filed against the blockades and today signatures were collected in front of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.

"The blockades are illegal, they make the lives of citizens impossible in this city, what is happening from next week onwards? We do not want to enter into too much political talks, we just have a state of lawlessness and anarchy in the capital," said petition initiator Nikolai Kolev.

The main organisers of the protest, the "Poisonous Trio", said that edible food was not thrown during the protests.

"All eggs and tomatoes are at reduced price and not of good quality to eat. They were bought with own funds or from donations," said Arman Babikyan.

"I will respond to the Scheherazades, who accuse us of throwing food instead of feeding the poor. Borissov, it is your job to feed the poor. That is why we pay taxes," he added.

The "Poisonous Trio" brought to the protest a "civic locker" that will gather arguments for the government's resignation in the coming evenings.
