On day 55 of anti-government protests in Sofia, a day before the scheduled national protest for September 2, which coincides with the end of Parliament’s recess, protesters again gathered in the centre of Sofia.
The situation in the “Triangle of Power” was calm. Many of the protesters think that through the attempt for changes to the Constitution, Prime Minister Borissov wants to gain time. They continue to demand his resignation.
The security measures have been strengthened this evening (September 1) in anticipation of the big national protest scheduled for tomorrow.
Shortly after 21:00, the organisers of the protest from the “Poisonous Trio” called upon protesters to stay the night in the tent camps outside the National Assembly, and said that those who could not stay should go home, so that they can join the protest early in the morning tomorrow.
As on previous nights, a procession took place to Eagles’ Bridge.
One of the entrances of the National Assembly is taped off by the police.
Sofia police directorate said they have taken all necessary measures to ensure public safety and called for preservation of public order and non-response to provocateurs.
