The director of Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant TPP has been arrested by police and detained for 24 hours, BNR reported on February 20. According to unconfirmed information, pre-trial proceedings have been opened by the Prosecutor’s Office.
More than a week ago,Interior Minister Mladen Marinov, Environment and Water Minister Emil Dimitrov and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev were in Bobov Dol plant because of illegal burning of waste.
"Most likely, the necessary legal requirements for the operation and compliance with environmental legislation are not met. And it's very simple. It's easier to drive a Maybach than to sell it and invest the money in the proper air quality devices because it would in theory cost a hundred to two hundred million BGN. Why give it for devices, if you can drive nice cars, have yachts, etc.," the chief prosecutor sarcastically commented then.
