The Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sport rejected the proposal for ratification of the Istanbul Convention by 10 to 9 votes. The Committee on Legal Affairs postponed its consideration at a proposal by the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), while the Foreign Policy Committee adopted it.
Earlier on 24th of January, the BSP requested parliament to stop the discussions on the Istanbul Convention. The Socialists insist on a referendum on whether the Convention to be ratified or not.
