Electricity imports continue to increase

Electricity imports continue to grow since the beginning of the year until June 14, according to data from the state electricity system operator (ESO).

During that period, electricity imports increased by just over 34%. At the same time, exports continue to decline and on an annual basis the decline is 18.22%. Despite the decrease, the country still continues to export more than to import.

There is also a decrease in the generation of electricity by 9%. The biggest drop is in the so-called base plants - NPPs and TPPs - by nearly 12%. On the other hand, the electricity produced from renewable energy sources - wind, solar and biomass power plants - is increasing.

Electricity consumption has decreased by 3.45% since the beginning of the year, ESO data show.

The energy watchdog, the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC), continues its inspections on the organized power exchange market in Bulgaria. Only a week ago, a new proceeding was launched on suspicion of abuse among exchange participants.

At a closed meeting today, June 16, the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission adopted new rules for the operation of the organised electricity exchange market, the commission announced. They cover the entire activity of the exchange operator, including the three market segments - "Day ahead", "Within the day" and Centralized market for the purchase and sale of electricity through bilateral contracts.

The Rules for Operation of the Organized Electricity Exchange Market adopted by the EWRC will be promulgated in the State Gazette.
