Farmers from the region of Kardzhali, South Bulgaria, staged a protest on 25th of January, demanding the repeal of a regulation related to the way of subsidising the sector and the refusal of dairies to buy their milk.
They gathered on the road to the Makaza border crossing.
The farmers say that in the middle of last year, they were surprised by a new regulation under which they will receive subsidies based on the milk they delivered.
They insist that the old payment method be returned - per animal. Because of low purchase prices, they also demand additional state funding to cover the difference with the cost of milk.
