Two workers were killed and several injured after a fire in the Bulgarian military plant “Arsenal”, in the town of Kazanlak, central Bulgaria, on 25th of April. The blast occurred at 10.30 in the morning in a workshop of plant 3, where gunpowder was processed and triggered a fire.
One of the two men who were killed in the incident was the former deputy director of the plant, engineer Varban Peshkov, the other man was a 41 year old worker with a long experience in the plant.
According to the district governor, Georgi Ranov, the fire was caused as a result of human error. The two men were repairing a machine near gunpowder ingredients.
The fire was extinguished by teams of fire fighters. There is no risk of air pollution.
An inspection is being carried out by teams of civil protection, police and fire fighting services.
