The former head of the National Intelligence Service, Gen. Kircho Kirov, was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment.
There are four cases in total against Kircho Kirov. One of the cases for the disclosure of state secrets is at the Military Court of Appeals after the SCC returned it back in November last year. Before that, Sofia Military Court found Kirov guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. Later, this verdict was also confirmed by the Military Court of Appeal. In this case, Kirov was accused of embezzling state funds in BGN, euros, US dollars and British pounds, the total equivalent of which was about 5 million BGN.
In January this year, it became clear that the Sofia Military District Prosecutor's Office filed a second indictment with the Sofia Military Court against the former director of the National Intelligence Service. Gen. Kirov was accused of embezzling over 5 million BGN for a period of five years from 2007 to 2011 in complicity with a trusted subordinate.
