The ruling GERB party collected the 120 signatures necessary to table the draft for convening the Grand National Assembly and new Constitution, the chair of GERB parliamentary group, Daniela Daritkova said at a briefing on September 2.
After days of deliberation, the IMRO (a constituent party from United Patriots alliance, which is a partner in the collation government) decided to give their votes in support of the draft. NFSB (the other constituent party of the United Patriots), part of Volya's PG and independent MPs will also support GERB.
Some points from the original version have been rearranged, Daritkova explained. A preamble has been incorporated in the draft, as requested by the IMRO, the legislative initiative of the judiciary has been abolished, and the text for the coat of arms has been included.
Late in the afternoon, GERB’s PG submitted in Parliament a draft for new Constitution and a draft of a decision for convening Grand National Assembly. The two drafts were tabled by the speaker of Pareliment, Tsveta Karaynacheva and Menda Stoyanova, MP and member of GERB’s Executive Commission.
