The main ruling party, the centre-right GERB proposed a removal of the limit of maximum 35 polling stations per foreign country for Bulgarians abroad, but only for the countries in the EU, GERB’s Danail Kirilov, the chair of the legal affairs parliamentary committee said on 17th of October after GERB filed amendments to the electoral code to the Parliament.
GERB propose a legal opportunity envisaging to have more than one ballot box in one polling station abroad through a decision of the Central Election Commission to be made if needed even on the day of the elections. This would create the necessary flexibility in the event of larger turnout and to ensure the rapidity of the voting process.
GERB also proposed the option on the ballot paper “I do not support anyone” to be counted as valid vote. Such votes will be recorded in the final result of the election. GERB are sure “I do not support anyone” is necessary because the new law made voting compulsory.
