greek farmers ended blockade checkpoints along bulgaria greece border

On 29th of February all checkpoints along the Bulgaria-Greece border are opened for traffic and are operating normally.

Around lunch time, the protesting Greek farmers withdrew the tractors and the agricultural machinery from the check points along Bulgaria-Greece border.

After a month of blockade, some 1,500 tractors started moving from Kulata-Promachon checkpoint to the interior of Greece and unblocked the road to let traffic of freight vehicles through. The farmers admitted they wanted to leave the tractors at the border at least by the end of March, but eventually made a decision to withdraw them and join the protests in Athens.

For about an hour and a half, all agricultural equipment was removed from the border crossings. The remaining 15 tractors will reportedly be withdrawn by the end of 29th of February.

The Bulgarian road hauliers were pleased that blockade was completely ended.

After today’s decision of the protesting Greek farmers to lift the blockade, the Bulgarian hauliers said they would not stage a counter-blockade at the Easter holidays as they initially intended, but added they were ready to respond if the Greek farmers renewed the blockade.
