The levels of fine particulate matter exceed 4 times the acceptable air quality standards of 50 microgrammes per cubic metre in Sofia.
On December 20, Sofia Municipality introduced the so called “green ticket”. It costs BGN 1 and will apply to all public transport lines for the day. Buffer parking lots near the underground lines will also be free-of-charge.
The green ticket is a measure aimed at encouraging people to leave their cars and use public transport on days with high concentration of fine particulate matter.
Checks for illegal waste burning in the city continue.
