The Labour Inspectorate launched a check in the garment making factory in the town of Rakovski, where workers protest on 17th of April over delayed wages. The administrative procedure was opened the day after the first signal was received in the Labour Inspectorate Directorate in Plovdiv, the press office of LI announced.
At the start of the check, it was established that payment of remuneration was agreed to take place by the 15th day of the month following the month in which the work was done, i.e. the remuneration for March should have been paid until April 15, 2018. A subpoena was given to a representative of the employer on 17.04.2018 asking him to provide the Labour Inspectorate with documents related to the payment of wages. Such documents have not been provided, as the contact person explained that he was ill.
The controlling bodies of the Labour inspectorate Agency will continue to monitor the case and take all action within the scope of its competence to protect the rights of the workers.
The employer submitted on 11 April 2018 an application for opening of insolvency proceedings. The application was lodged at the Regional Court in Plovdiv. If the court issues a decision to declare the company bankrupt, the employees will have the right to refer to the Guaranteed Receivables Fund for the payment of salaries and benefits not paid by the employer.
