A section of the road between Smolyan and Madan (South Bulgaria) will remain closed to traffic for half a year. The area around the landslide remains hazardous for people and the workers, a report by the Road Infrastructure Agency says.
Experts have explained that cleaning up of the soil and rock may trigger a new, even greater slide. The cracks are yet to be strengthened and filled. Drainage is needed. Two reinforcing constructions need to be built. The slide has a size of 35 decares.
The main cause for the landslide was the heavy snowmelt.
The new road linking the villages will be ready at the earliest next week.
