A large afforestation initiative dedicated to the Forest Week was carried out across Bulgaria on 8th of April.
The regional directorates of the Forests Agency provided various types of seedlings and transportation of everyone who wanted to participate. Some 500 people, including students, journalists, fire fighters and gendarmerie officers from the capital city of Sofia took part in the initiative and afforested about 100 acres of burned areas near the village of Lokorovo, which were damaged by fires 3 years ago.
The Forests Agency provided tree seedings of ash, oak and other trees and specialists gave instructions on their planting.
At a prize giving ceremony, the forests agency presented its annual awards. BNT was honoured with an award for media partnership in conducting national campaigns of social importance.
The BNT journalist from “Around the World and at Home“ newscast, Zoya Velinova received the award for objective and timely coverage of events and issues from the forestry sector.
The BNT programme “Furrows” received an award for promoting activities in the forests.
