The Laboratory on Mathematical Chemistry at the University "Assen Zlatarov" in the Bulgarian Black Sea coastal city of Bourgas will be the basis for the establishment of a large scientific business centre for training of students and researchers from around the world. Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Meglena Kuneva attended the opening ceremony on 18th of April. The Laboratory on mathematical chemistry is a leading laboratory in the world in respect of studying the harmful effects of various chemical compounds.
Professor Ovanes Makenyan and his team work with the largest chemical and pharmaceutical companies from the USA, Japan, Canada, Australia and Europe and their software for testing chemical compounds is recognized as leading.
The Laboratory generates significant revenues and attracts specialists from all over the world.
During the presentation, the mayor of Bourgas suggested the Operational Programme “Science and Education for Intelligent Growth” to financially support the establishment of a large scientific business centre.
Given the fact, that the biggest world chemical companies use the software products of the laboratory in Bourgas, it would be logical to establish such a scientific centre, Kuneva said.
Under the new operational programme, for the first time half a billion BGN will be allocated to Bulgaria under one of the axis for science.
During the presentation of the laboratory, representatives of the Australian office of chemical safety congratulated their Bulgarian colleagues via internet.
