In the heat of the summer, when holiday prices are usually at their highest, the coronavirus pandemic has set a precedent. Accommodation places offer up to 50% lower prices in smaller seaside resorts in Bulgaria. At the same time, the guest houses and family hotels are working at full capacity.
One of the smaller beach resorts in the south - Chernomorets, welcomes for the first year mainly Bulgarian tourists.
"We prefer Bulgaria to any other country, " a holidaymaker, Nikolay Hristov, said.
Unlike last August, when there were no vacancies in hotels and guest houses in Chernomorets, this year the accommodation base is about 85% full. A family of four pays BGN 180 per night for an apartment.
"These are guest houses that are rented out by the owners and do not offer additional extras. Prices range from 15% discount to 30% discount, depending on what is offered in the hotel itself," said hotelier Diana Kolcheva.
At the same time, a family hotel in Pomorie resort, which traditionally receives mainly foreign tourists on charter programmes, now has mainly Bulgarian guests.
"Price levels are approximately 20% to 30% lower than last year," said hotel owner Georgi Trapkov.
No extras are available when renting a room, but the hotel is almost full.
"Apart from the hotel accommodation and breakfast, we offer the use of the SPA area with a certain number of things in it," said Georgi Trapkov.
And for comparison - in the largest sea resort in the country - Sunny Beach, only about 30% of the accommodation places are open.
