The most significant archaeological site that archaeologists in Plovdiv area worked on this summer was the largest burial mound on the Balkan Peninsula, located near the Plovdiv village of Manole (Southern Bulgaria).
In the process of excavations, the researchers actually discovered a huge Roman-era tower with the size of a 7-story building.
A team of Plovdiv Museum of Archaeology discovered at that site an impressive 20 meters tall tower tomb with the shape of a pyramid built with stone and bricks. So far, this is the only ancient building of such size preserved in Europe. The coins, clay pottery, ceramics and marble architectural elements unearthed at the site date back to the 3rd century AD.
