In order to deal with air pollution and improve air quality, Sofia municipality puts filters on residential buildings in several neighborhoods. The measure is additional to the two major projects to replace wood and coal installations with more environmentally friendly ones.
The programme targets Krasna Polyana and Slatina neighbourhoods. These areas are a priority, as there are many people who use solid fuel for heating and therefore the air pollution is high. Mayor of Krasna Polyana Ivan Chakarov announced that most of the new filters will be placed in Fakulteta.
Last year, the metropolitan municipality tested 35 households. The the new programme is for three years and will cover 2,000 households. The new filters are expected to be 180 by the end of December.
