MINISTER OF TOURISM: CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL TOURISM IS OF KEY IMPORTANCE FOR BULGARIA

Cultural and historical tourism is of key importance for developing Bulgaria into an all year round tourist destination, Bulgaria’s Minister of Tourism, Nikolina Anglekova said at the opening of the 13th edition of the international exhibit “cultural Tourism” in the old capital, Veliko Turnovo on 14th of April. Eight cultural and historical tourist destinations have been created and Veliko Turnovo is one of them, the minister said. More than 70 representatives from countries around the world will take part in the event in the next three days to present the cultural and historic heritage of their cities and countries.

Angelkova highlighted that the created destinations will soon be presented through interactive maps and special brochures, which will additionally support the efforts of the municipalities in promoting the relevant regions and the cultural monuments included in them.

As regards the upcoming tourist season, Minister Angelkova assured that the ministry of tourism worked in close cooperation with the ministries of interior and foreign affairs to ensure the security of the tourists.

She said that a successful tourist season was expected this summer and added that the ministry of tourism reported a significant increase in the early bookings for holidays in Bulgaria and planned charter flights from Russia and Germany.

The minister said that an online register of tourist attractions was created, which after adopting the amendments to the law on tourism would become a national online register. Another online register is ion process of development and it will include the festivals and events in Bulgaria, she added.
