There are 4 new suspected measles cases in Plovdiv, South Bulgaria, the Ministry of Health informed on 21st of March. For the time being, they have not been confirmed yet. Despite the new cases, however, health officials believe they can limit possible epidemic outbreak as immunization coverage in Plovdiv and Stolipinovo neighbourhood is good.
Two of the cases were confirmed to have measles. The children went through immunization 7 years ago, when the latest measles epidemic occurred, but do not have the protection of the second dose of the vaccine. The symptoms are not as severe because they had the first dose.
Samples were sent for a test in a WHO laboratory in Berlin, where they would be able to say where the virus comes from. For the time being it believed it comes from Germany.
