New line 3 of Sofia underground officially opened

The first section of the third underground line in Sofia was officially opened on August 26. It connects the neighbourhoods of Krasno Selo and Hadzhi Dimitar. The route is 8 km long with 8 metro stations.

The new line is open to the public as of 2 pm. As part of the tradition, travel on the first day is free of charge.

The Executive Director of the Sofia Metropolitan company (the operator of the entire metro system), Eng. Stoyan Bratoev, congratulated everyone on the opening of the first 8 km of the third metro line.

He said that these 8 km were built with great desire and a lot of work over the past 4 years. “Let's enjoy what we have built. I have the feeling that nothing better can be done than this. We have made a great underground, a wonderful line ", said eng. Bratoev.

Transport Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said today was a day for congratulations and thanks.

"First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude to all European taxpayers, including Bulgarians, who have contributed to this grant and the co-financing of the third metro line. Secondly, I would like to thank all designers, the builders, the contracting entity, Mrs. Fandakova (Sofia Mayor) and Mr. Bratoev ".

The Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka, said that after a lot of hard work and efforts, Sofia now has an underground network. She thanked everyone who contributed to the construction. “We continue to ensure the development of the underground service”, she added.
