No confirmed case of coronavirus in Bulgaria so far

The number of hospitalisations due to suspected coronavirus in Bulgaria is increasing. So far, there is no confirmed case of coronavirus in the country.

The results of the tests sent from the cities of Plovdiv, Sliven, Gabrovo, as well as for two patients from the Military Medical Academy in Sofia were negative. Samples from Rousse, Bourgas and Sliven are expected to arrive in Sofia today, February 26.

More than 60,000 people have been checked at the entries and exits at the Bugarian borders for the past 24 hours. At this stage, there have been no confirmed cases of the infection in either Romania or Serbia.

Ten teachers and students from Lyuben Karavelov Secondary School in the city of Dobrich were placed under home quarantine after returning from Italy. They were in Potenza. They came back before the quarantine was announced in the country, they have no health problems.

Another group of students and their teachers from a school in Kavarna are currently in Italy, 8 km away from Milan. They have tickets to return on March 1, but are looking for options to return to Bulgaria earlier.

Pirogov and Alexandrovska hospitals are ready to convert the buildings of the Toxicology Clinic and the Skin Clinic in the event of need. The MMA Psychiatric Clinic will be closed, providing 40 more beds. The crisis staff also urges the convening of district medical councils.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andrey Chorbanov, Head of the Laboratory for Experimental Immunology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: With these intense exchanges of people flowing in Europe, this simply cannot be avoided.

Chorbanov added that the number of people who would die from the coronavirus would be less than the number of people who would die from the flu for the same period. There is currently no treatment for coronavirus. A second wave of influenza with an epidemic spread of type B is expected in Bulgaria.
