Although 76% of the Bulgarians believe that the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU is important for the country, only 37% of them think that he county is prepared for it, according to the results of a survey conducted by Trend Research Centre, commissioned by "24 Hours" newspaper.
The demographic breakdowns show that GERB and Bulgarian Socialist Party supporters strongly differ in their position as to whether Bulgaria is prepared for the presidency of the Council of the EU or not. More than three quarters of GERB's supporters believe that Bulgaria is prepared, while the opinion that the country is not prepared prevails among the supporters of the socialist party.
The prevailing expectations about the presidency are optimistic. 43% of all Bulgarian citizens think that it will be successful and 18% think that it will be unsuccessful. Trend results again show serious differences between the supporters of GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party in this respect. GERB's supporters are the biggest optimists, while the supporters of the BSP are more conservative in their expectations, although the majority believe that the presidency will be successful.
