The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) does not support GERB's proposal for a new Constitution and rejects the invitation for consultations.
This is the standpoint of the party's executive bureau and the leadership of the “BSP for Bulgaria” parliamentary group.
According to Yanaki Stoilov, the BSP stands in defence of the current Constitution and believes that the problem is not in its content, but in its implementation, he said in a statement on August 18.
Yanaki Stoilov, Chair of the BSP Legal Council: The proposal for a supposedly new Constitution creates an uncontrolled opportunity for a Grand National Assembly with an unclear political profile and majority to lead us into a constitutional impasse, and during this time the outcome of the political crisis will deepen and all social and economic problems will remain unresolved. We do not support GERB's proposal and call for firm opposition with parliamentary and mass actions to the attempt for constitutional replacement undertaken in a National Assembly that is increasingly losing its representation and serving an exhausted government.
