Bulgarian pensioners protested outside the Presidency on 9th of March. Their demands included a minimum pension of 300 BGN and subsequent increase every year, and guaranteed free healthcare for pensioners aged 65 or over and were presented by pensioners’ organizations in a declaration sent to Bulgaria’s President, caretaker Prime Minister, Ombudsman and the Mayor of Sofia.
Other demands included free-of-charge social clubs. The senior citizens also insisted that representatives of their organizations participate in committees in Parliament, the tripartite council to the Council of Ministers and in the National Insurance Institute. As a first point in the declaration, they have put a demand for immediate drafting and adoption of a law on the elderly.
