Bulgaria is ranked second in terms of smallest external debt in the EU. The sustained GDP growth has been highly praised by the EC for years, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said in Brussels on February 21.
The fact that we need to move more slowly to the Eurozone waiting room is due to Steve Hanke's interview.
We discussed the guarantee for the BGN exchange rate, added Borissov.
Asked when Bulgaria is expected to join the Eurozone waiting room, Borissov said:
"The time we are talking about is July - not April, then the applications of Croatia and Bulgaria will be examined. Until then, Bulgarian banks need to monitor capital solvency very carefully so that there are no obstacles. We are heading to the Eurozone waiting room only at this exchange rate and only if there is absolute consensus in the country, added Borissov. There is no country that has adopted the euro, which then becomes poorer or weaker, stressed Borisov.
Speaking to reporters Borissov also commented an article by the Barcelona-based media “Periodico” regarding an investigation against him in Spain.
"Neither I have a house, nor any real estate. Last time I visited Barcelona was 15 years ago, as mayor of Sofia," Borissov said.
