PM: Bulgaria loses tens of millions of BGN because of the coronavirus

Bulgaria loses tens of millions of BGN every day because of the coronavirus, consumption is dropping, fuel consumption is down by 15%, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said during a government meeting on March 10.

Testing of a mycormolecule for treatment of various types of coronaviruses, which has been developed for 4 years by a Bulgarian company, can start within two months. This was announced at today's government meeting in Sofia tech park.

For four years, a Bulgarian company has been developing a drug that can fight coronaviruses.

Kostadin Petkov, Sofia Tech Park: We are currently working with innovative companies that have developed a molecule for treatment of coronaviruses and together with the government and with venture capital in Europe, we are beginning the first steps to finance this product.

So far, the Bulgarian company Micro 21 has sent samples from the micromolecule to laboratories in the US and Belgium for verification. It is expected to be effective against various types of coronavirus.

Kostadin Petkov: The testing of this micromolecule can start in two months, it is a Bulgarian development, there is no involvement of external companies and it is a pride for all of us, for the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, for the companies.

At night, border guards identified the first attempt for smuggling of 7,500 protective masks, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said. The state will take measures to further tighten border controls to prevent attempts to export medical supplies. Later today, two lorries of masks and protective clothing from Turkey are expected to arrive. They were provided to Bulgaria as a gesture of friendship, he added.
