President Radev: Bulgarian diplomacy skillfully defends the national interest

We are witnessing dynamic changes in the political, social and cultural life of our societies. This changes the challenges facing Bulgarian diplomacy, called to defend the national interest and to realize the main goals of our foreign policy, Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev said on July 19 in Sofia. He took part in the celebration of the Day of the Diplomatic Service.

The event at the Boyana Residence, hosted by Foreign Minister Svetlan Stoev, was attended by Vice President Iliana Yotova, caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev, representatives of the caretaker government, Bulgarian diplomats and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria.

In his greeting, the head of state wished the Bulgarian diplomats to continue to preserve and develop the rich traditions and achievements of the country’s foreign policy and to achieve results for Bulgaria.

As achievements of our diplomatic service, Rumen Radev highlighted the development of a number of European policies, the efforts to implement the priorities of the European Union for digital and green transformation of societies.

"You have actively participated in the formation of a new effective European policy, to defend our interests and to uphold them for the future of Bulgaria and Europe," the president addressed the diplomats.

As a primary task for Bulgarian diplomats, the head of state highlighted the defence of the interests of Bulgarian communities abroad.

Rumen Radev also called for continued support for accelerated European integration of Bulgaria’s neighbours in the Western Balkans, in strict compliance with the Copenhagen criteria for EU membership.

"Our mission as diplomats is to serve the Republic of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian citizens, to protect their national interests. Bulgarian diplomacy is entrusted with the high responsibility to defend national interests internationally and regionally and in bilateral relations, for optimal positioning of our country. everywhere in the world ", said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev and thanked the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Executive today and over the years for their efforts to improve resource security, efficiency and justice in the system of Bulgarian diplomacy.
