In an official address to the nation on 11th of April, Bulgaria’s President Roumen Radev presented his motives for the proposed curtail of voting rights of Bulgarians residing abroad.
Last week, the justice ministry published and later withdrew a draft law with amendments to the law on Bulgarian citizenship, suggesting changing to the Electoral Code and two more laws.
The most disputed was the proposal for introducing domicile requirement in Parliamentary and Presidential elections which envisaged allowing Bulgarians to vote in such elections only if they had been residents in the country three months prior to the vote.
The address was live streamed on BNT news website news.bnt.bg on 11th of April.
