president radev hold consultations continue change monday

The consultations with the President on the mandate to form a government will continue on Monday, when the head of state will hold a meeting with "We Continue the Change".

This is what the President told journalists after his visit to the Taraclia State University "Grigoriy Tsamblak" in Moldova - an educational centre of the Bessarabian Bulgarians in the region.

"Consultations with the parliamentary parties continue, but there needs to be a clear understanding on the part of the parties that a constructive dialogue is needed. Concessions and definition of clear common goals for the future of Bulgaria are needed. You can see for yourself that going to elections too often is not a good solution. So, the time of handing over the first mandate also depends on the course of the consultations," the President pointed out.

He commented on the accusations of "We Continue the Change" of interference in the work of the National Assembly in the election of the chairman of the sports committee:

"I expect the Bulgarian Parliament to produce laws, not cheap intrigues."

In Taraclia, the Head of State joined the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians, which is tomorrow - 29 October. He thanked our compatriots in Bessarabia for defending their identity for two centuries.

He also announced that he had received assurances from his Moldovan counterpart, Maia Sandu, that the forthcoming reform would take into account the demands of the Bessarabian Bulgarians to keep the Taraclia region as an independent administrative territorial unit.

Taraclia University, opened in 2004 and named after Bulgarian cleric Grigoriy Tsamblak, is the only higher education institution outside Bulgaria that teaches advanced studies in Bulgarian language and literature, culture, history and music.

Each year Bulgaria provides a scholarship and maintenance for the admission of 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University.

Because of the educational reform in Moldova, the University was in danger of losing its academic status and becoming a branch of the State Pedagogical Institute in Chisinau, but after the efforts of the Bulgarian state in talks with Chisinau, it remains an independent educational institution for the time being.

There are about 50,000 Bessarabian Bulgarians in the Taraclia region, southern Moldova, not counting those living in the unrecognised Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic. The remainder of the Bessarabian Bulgarians live in Ukraine, where they are also the largest in number.
