President signed the decrees to dissolve the 48th National Assembly and to appoint a caretaker cabinet

On the basis of Article 99(5) of the Constitution, President Rumen Radev on February 2 signed a decree dissolving the 48th National Assembly on 3 February 2023. The Head of State scheduled parliamentary elections for 2 April 2023.

By another decree, the Head of State appoints a caretaker government from 3 February 2023.

All the current ministers keep their posts except the Minister of Culture. The conductor Naiden Todorov has been appointed to replace Velislav Minekov. Todorov was director of the opera in Rousse, and since 2017 he has been director of the Bulgarian Philharmonic.

The line-up of the caretaker government is as follows:

Gulub Spasov Donev - Caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria;

Atanas Angelov Pekanov - Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister for the management of EU funds;

Lazar Manolov Lazarov - Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister for Social Policies and caretaker Minister for Labour and Social Policy;

Hristo Vladimirov Alexiev - Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policies and caretaker Minister for Transport and Communications;

Ivan Petev Demerdzhiev - Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister for Public Order and Security and caretaker Minister of the Interior;

Rositsa Atanasova Velkova-Zeleva - Caretaker Minister of Finance;

Dimitar Zhelyazkov Stoyanov - Caretaker Minister of Defence;

Assen Georgiev Medjidiev - Caretaker Minister of Health;

Ivan Dimitrov Shishkov - Caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works;

Sasho Georgiev Penov - Caretaker Minister of Education and Science;

Nikolay Milkov Milkov - Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs;

Krum Kostadinov Zarkov - Caretaker Minister of Justice;

Rositsa Atanasova Karamfilova-Blagova - Caretaker Minister of Environment and Water;

The powers of the caretaker government, appointed by decree on 1 August 2022, have been terminated.
