presidents bulgaria cyprus discuss new european budget

We discussed the Multiannual European Financial Framework and our common position on upholding cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy, Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev said on February 25 after meeting his Cypriot counterpart, Nikos Anastasiadis.

We firmly support efforts to adopt a budget that guarantees sustainable, economic and social cohesion within the EU, based on our principles of solidarity and unity. We also discussed the energy perspective of our countries and the effectiveness of our future cooperation, Radev added.

The meeting took place in the year that marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Cyprus.

We have reviewed bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest. Particular emphasis was placed on our cooperation in the area of the economy. Leading for us is the ambition to increase bilateral trade, which, despite the fluctuations in the recent years, has been growing upward, but our potential is much greater, especially in the areas of trade, tourism, construction, finance, investments in various fields that can lead to various benefits of our countries, said Radev, pointing out that during all these years we have built solid relationships, not only in the areas of economy, investment, education and culture, but also built a strong and sustainable friendly relationship between Bulgarian and Cypriot people.

It became clear that tomorrow, February 26, the two presidents will open a business forum in Sofia, with participation of Bulgarian and Cypriot companies.

What is special about this forum is that we will give new perspectives in search of new parameters for our economic trade relations. Cyprus is one of the leading investors in Bulgaria and we strive to provide even better conditions for the Cypriot business, thinking not only of trading, but of creating joint ventures and entering third markets together. Of particular interest to Cyprus is the rapid development of the technology industry, innovation and start-ups in Bulgaria. We will also sign three agreements between the two chambers of commerce and industry, added Rumen Radev.
