The development of transport and energy infrastructure was the focus of the meeting between Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić. The two spoke in Istanbul before the opening ceremony of the Turk Stream pipeline on January 8.

Prime Minister Borissov highlighted the fruitful cooperation in the area of energy between Bulgaria and Serbia. He briefed Vucic on the progress of the activities related to the extension of the gas transmission infrastructure from the Turkish-Bulgarian to the Bulgarian-Serbian border.

Borissov noted that the implementation of the Balkan Stream project will provide an opportunity for natural gas deliveries from various sources at competitive prices for Bulgaria and the neighbouring countries and the region of Southeast Europe.

President Vucic confirmed that Serbia would also call the project “Balkan Stream”. "These are our gas distribution networks. Bulgaria has a gas hub, Serbia has one and we exchange gas in both directions. We are making diversification for the next 20-30-50 years," the Bulgarian Prime Minister noted.

He also said that Europe Motorway is being built. It will link the Bulgarian capital Sofia with Serbia at Kalotina border crossing. "One of the lots will be ready by the summer. Procedures are underway for another lot," Borissov said. Last November, Prime Minister Borissov visited Serbia, where he and President Aleksandar Vucic participated in the official opening ceremony of the motorway stretch of Corridor 10 from the Bulgarian border to Nis.
