Doctors and members of the public staged a protest on 5th of October in Vratsa, North-West Bulgaria over the heavy financial position of the city’s hospital.
The health care institution has accumulated debts of more than BGN 12 million, which the management cannot deal with. For months, the medical staff received only part of their wages. The protest turned into civil disobedience. Traffic on a key boulevard in the city was temporarily blocked.
The protesters carried posters urging the government to not close down the hospital in Vratsa.
The mayor of Vratsa Kalin Kamenov also joined the protest. He assured all protesters that together with the head of the hospital, Orlin Tsvetkov, they will hold a meeting in the Ministry of Health. Kamenov hopes for a favourable solution.
