Plovdiv Appellate Court upheld the one-year effective sentence of the religious preacher Ahmed Musa ruled by Pazardzhik Regional Court. In practice, however, Musa will not go to prison because he was in pre-tiral custody for more than 3 years under another charge.
None of the defendants appeared in court on 30th of March.
Ahmed Musa wasn released at the end of 2017 on bail. The prosecutor in the case was also dissatisfied with the verdict.
Viktor Yankov, Prosecutor at the Appellate Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv says that the prosecution will protest because we are not satisfied with the size of the punishment imposed on Ahmed Musa Ahmed. We suggested that he be punished for two years.
The court acquitted the 13th defendant in the case, Jusuf Gorelski.
Ahmed Musa Ahmed was taken into custody on 25th of November 2014 after a special operation of the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office, the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Ministry of Interior conducted against radical ideologies in four Bulgarian cities.
