From 1 July, 2020 a temporary reduced 9% VAT rate for books, restaurant services and some children's goods will apply until the end of the year.
The reduction is part of the cabinet's social and economic measures to deal with the consequences of the coronavirus crisis.
It was introduced at the will of the Prime Minister, despite the disagreement of the Minister of Finance.
According to experts, the reduction will be felt among consumers of baby foods and sanitary materials, in the prices of newly published books, but not in the bills at restaurants.
The industry reminds that 9% VAT will be valid only for consumption in restaurants, not for take away. The rate for beer, wine and spirits remains unchanged, at 20%.
