The Mayor of South Bulgarian city of Smolyan, Nikolayi Melemov, declared a state of emergency at 8.00 am on 18th of January on the territory of the whole municipality. This was announced by the press center of Smolyan Municipality.
The strong wind caused road closures because of uprooted and fallen trees and cut power supply in many villages in the area. Rescue, emergency and restoration works are needed in Smolyan municipality.
Crisis Management Team headed by Deputy Mayor Eng. Mariana Tsekova held a meeting. Currently, many villages are without electricity including Turian, Stanevska Mahala, Reka, Trebishte, the whole Ardensko river, Momchilovtsi, Sokolovtsi and Tikale. The road to Turian, Gabritsa and Levochevo are closed for traffic. The municipality of Smolyan advises to leave their homes only in the event of emergency and urgent needs.
